Yash Bhargava created sensation in Mumbai and did everyone proud when he beat the Top Seed Mumbai’s Dev Vazirani in five games 4-11, 9-11, 11-2, 12-10, 12-10

The Under – 11 Little Master has taken promising strides in the last one year enjoys playing his squash from the ” T “ took sometime to get the blood circulation going before getting his act into place with his high looping serves, good length and calculated side-walls and drops to take away the match quiet easily. Yash who plays a mature game  despite his tender age excels by not creating any self created pressures  that children older than him can not do.  He had earlier taken a game of Yohan Pandole before losing to him 1-3 in the Quarter Finals of the Under -13

The other player from NCR – Junaid Muzzafar continued to play his own very smooth style of squash to reach the semi-finals of Under -13. Junaid is to play Kunj Rawani in the semi-finals.

Mumbai will host the PSA Squash Masters this year. The event which is to be played at the Bombay Gymkhana Club is scheduled to have 32 players literally the cream of top Squash Players from the world.

The event will feature both Saurav Ghosal (ranked 33) and Ritwik Bhattacharya (ranked 75) rub shoulders in respective half of the draw.
Even though Gregory Gaultier of France recently moved on Top of the PSA seedings this event is being played keeping in mind the seedings in October 2009 and the Big Boys in World Squash are not complaining (a lesson that our juniors could definately learn from). I remember when we played in our time there was little pressure on us as youngsters. Today however things are different…….read  both these related posts……..

For citizens of Mumabi it has been a long wait of 12 years to see some high quality squash in their own backyard and no one is cribbing. Silent promotion for the sport started some month ago at the Junior Nationals when youngsters and their guardians and coaches were seen inviting players from other parts of the country.
With a field that boasts of the world’s top 32 players, including the hugely popular Egyptian duo of Amr Shabana and Ramy Ashour, the Punj Lloyd PSA Masters will be held at the Bombay Gymkhana courts here from Dec 5-10.
The Mumbai event is a new entrant in the international squash calendar. It is a Super Series Platinum event (the highest category in the sport) with a prize pool of about $150,000.

psamas66Five times former National Champions Ritwik Bhattacharya who together with his friend Raj Arora are the main brains behind this event had originally proposed to have the matches played on Mumbai’s famous Chowpatty Beach.
This proposal was however dropped due to security reasons on the advise of local police. The organizers it is understood also had a public interest litigation that was decided against them by the Mumbai High Court.
Ritwik who had long ago  expressed his desire to be a part of such intiative with the author would be a happy many to have been able to put everything together including a sponsor. He enjoyed a wild card in the event and is placed in the lower half which has names like Gregory Gaultier and Amar Shabana. While fellow compatriot and younger Saurav Ghosal is pitted against Karim Darwish and Ramy Ashour.

66th CCI Western India Squash Results

cciThe 66th CCI Western India Squash Championship got underway in Mumbai on November 08th, 2009. Perhaps one of the oldest Squash Tournament in the world the event has now been running successfully over the last six decades.

Like every year local players from various clubs in Mumbai will get to rub shoulders with outstation players from Chennai, Delhi and Rajasthan. This year the winner in the Men’s Open will take back Rs. 1,10,000/- as prize money from the kitty of Rs. 6.00.000/- which is at stake across 15 categories.

Results 66th CCI Western India Open

UP State Senior Team Trials Concluded

The Noida Squash Courts saw some senior level action for a change when players from Kanpur, Dhampur incluidng local players contested for a place in the UP State Team for the Senior National Inter State Championships.

The trials were organised by Uttar Pradesh Squash Rackets Assocaition and hosted by District Gautam Buddh Nagar Squash Rackets Assocaition  on Sunday November 22nd. In all 16 matches were played. These include regaular selection matches as well as challenge matches between players.

As per  UPSRA NOTIFICATIONS the following players have been identified by the UPSRA and names have been forwarded to SRFI
